Commercial Buildings

building acousticsOffice and work areas must provide an appropriate environment in which confidential meetings and conferences can take place, in which concentration and telephone use are easy, and in which distractions from other activities are minimized.

Wall, door, window and air distribution systems can be designed to provide privacy and isolation.  In multi-tenant buildings, it’s often necessary to separate completely different functions, e.g. meditation rooms and disco-driven exercise classes.  STC ratings of partitions are often an unreliable indicator of isolation.

Building systems can be designed to deliver “just enough” noise, which is actually beneficial by helping mask (cover up) other sounds, as long as it doesn’t interfere.
